Wednesfield North News

Councilllor Phil Bateman said "There are a number of small issues that I want to flag up today that is causing some residents concern.
The first is the street light in Bucknall Road. I have been pestering the City Officials since early October, they recently wrote to me stating that they could confirm that the "street light in Bucknall Road was replaced on the 21 October 2004 and Central Networks advised that the light can be reconnected. The reconnection should be carried out in the next 14 days." the good news is that a resident now informs me yesterday that the light is now definatley on and working.

Also I want to report that I have received requests from a few people to ask about the access and egress from the estate at Peacock Avenue. I am informed that at peak times it is difficult to get out of Peacock Avenue.Again City Engineers say that they have no specific proposals for the Lichfield Road/Peacock Avenue junction. However, in view of your comments they will undertake investigations which will include road casualties and delays in Peacock Avenue. Now this does not mean that there will be help given but it is important that they look at the difficulty some motorist's are having.

A little further down at the Linthouse Lane junction with the Lichfield Road Councillor Helen King has been working with City Engineers on some solutions concerning this very complicated junction. Again this is an issue that I will report on when I have some solid information.

On another point of concern , I have made contact with the Chief Executive about a new Community Centre for the Ward. I have explained that we are a Ward of some size with the only Community Centre based in ageing premises. I can report that a little more progress has been made and I shall be speaking with a senior Leisure Services officer to discuss our needs in greater detail in the next few weeks. Don't raise hopes too high but there is progress being made, I will keep everyone informed as the detail starts to emerge"
