Parking Still A Problem

Councillor Phil Bateman today said “I am today releasing this report I have received from the City Council following request that I have had about car parking on Ashmore Park. I am currently lobbying hard for more purpose built car parking on the estate as suburban parking issues are one of the more serious issues. City Officials tell me that they are addressing the parking issues in Peacock Avenue and
Griffiths Drive as these are seen as two of the most pressing problems in
the three year programme."

The process of establishing priorities for schemes
depends on a range of issues, including road safety, bus routes, proximity of
schools. Since the Council announced the parking in residential area funding the requests received far outstrip the funding available.
We will only be
introducing new footway crossings where this is part of an existing highway
scheme. The Council's policy is not to subsidise footway crossings
requested by individual residents and neither is it policy to allow a
contractor appointed by the resident to undertake such work.

The Council currently charge their reasonable costs for undertaking the
construction of footway crossings and no subsidy is available except where
residents are registered disabled.
I regret I cannot be more helpful on this issue.

Added Councillor Bateman “Parking bays have been successfully constructed in Griffith Drive, Blackham Road, Coppice Close, and an Access Road in Linthouse Lane currently. I shall continue to argue for extra funding for residential and suburban areas.”
