Wednesfield Youth Activity Poor.

A mapping of current provision for youth activity in Wednesfield North, Wednesfield South and Fallings Park Wards suggested that the type of activity currently available to young people between the ages of 11 and 15 years of age is narrow in choice and restrictive in interest.
Councillor Phil Bateman said " The report by GFA Consulting to the Wednesfield Forum is starting to provide evidence that suggests that the activity base for youngsters in Wednesfield is not very wide. That the numbers of youngsters using all the facilities that are available amounts to a figure of probably just some 300 users, out of a population of some 2,300 youngsters. The report informs us that equates to a participation rate of just 12%.

The report suggests that the lack of detached youth service provision and proactive outreach work means that there are significant difficulties in engaging young people who are demonstrating anti-social behaviour." Councillor Bateman went on to say " The report gives hope as it provides some recomendations as to how these issues should be tackled, and the new ''taster activities'' that have been delivered at 10 venues has attracted 161 young people, of which 54% had not previously been to any youth activities in the Forum area before."
