Schools Surprise

Councillor Phil Bateman has admitted surprise following the report produced by GFA Consulting which the Wednesfield Area Forum received at its meeting on the 17th June.
In that report it suggested that the two secondary schools that provide for the Wednesfield area, Wednesfield High and Coppice High School.Whilst having a good reputations anecdotally. Actually had one of the lowest GCSE attainment scores in the City scoring at 27.6 compared with a City average of 33.5.

Phil Bateman said " that sort of stark assessment will haunt many parents who are about to choose a school for their children. This report suggests that 45% pupils attending these two schools reach key stage 2 targets compared with 69% for Wolverhampton overall- 4th worst in the City. Parents will undoubtably want to know how this is happening? More important they will want to know from Governors and teaching staff how these figures are going to be improved. Both schools have long had 'good reputations' it comes as surprise to be told that it is based on anecdote only! I hope that both schools will respond to the report as I and hundreds of other will want to be assured about future educational attainment."
